School me on braided brake lines was created by ramtough_63
Ok I am thoroughly confused and it seems all the websites and people that know wont tell.

I am needing a brake line for my project and there seems to be a couple different sizes and i am not sure

-3an line 3-an banjo fitting?
-4an line 4-an banjo fitting?
10mm banjo bolt? 12mm banjo bolt?

then you have universal line with no fitting size listed
i am trying to plumb a zx6 brear brake and as usual my bike is an hour and a half away not sure having it here would help

can anyone give me a lesson or tell me what size I really need?
I would greatly appreciate your input/help

here is a link to the russel catalog.
www.russellperformance.com/motorcycle/dl/07RussMetricCat.pdf

they only show -3.
the manjo bolt must match the threads in the caliper and master. not all makes are the same. i believe all Kawi's are 10mm.X 1.25, but u can look it up on bike bandits parts list if needed.
Look at the prices and selection at Z1E.
if u buy them premade, just give them the total length.
if u buy Russels that u have to screw the ends on yourself, i'm pretty sure that u measure the total length u need, and account for the fittings being 1" each. That info will be on the russel home page

Z1E and others have a neat brake light switch that u may need too. It’s a banjo bolt with a built in switch, for about $20.

let me know how long u need. i may have a spare.

Thanks Mark, I was able to find out the differnce is 1/16 in the diameter 4 being bigger

I assume it is a 10mm banjo fitting for a 10mm bolt.

I am thinking 26 inches the stock is 18" and I need the additional length for routing.

my initial measurement was 25" taking in consideration for routing

I've bought lines for a couple of KZ's from a guy named Raymond Chan. He sells on e-bay under the name Rennsport Auto Parts.

Measure the lines, tell him the types of fittings you want, the length and orientation and he'll send the lines to you for a very reasonable price.

I just bought a front line set for my KZ900 - a line going from the master cylinder to the splitter and another line going from the splitter to the metal hose that connects to the caliper. Price including shipping from Canada was about $50 and it included new banjo bolts and copper washers. Hard to beat that! You just need to order the lines and fittings correctly.

What worked for me on the top line was 14 inches with a banjos on either end. The top banjo has a 15 degree angle.

Orientation of the banjos is 90 degrees. In other words, if you were to lay this line flat on a table, one banjo would be laying flat and the other would be on its side. This works well for superbike and drag bars so that the line is not all twisted up between the master and the splitter.

Bottom line (splitter to caliper) length and hardware varies, depending on whether the caliper is in front or behind the fork leg and whether you have the steel pipe or if the banjo attaches to the caliper. You can pretty much just go with the same length as stock since changing handlebars doesn't affect the bottom line length.

Here's Raymond's website with pictures of the parts etc. apexbrakes.com/custom.asp

He had different colors too, no additional charge.
