Thanks M357.5,

I did see that rather nice looking triple tree of porche's, as far as I can see it gives you at most an inch and a half, that might be enough. I still want to find out if the forks can be stretched, the sliders are 46 mm. diameter and that's a tough size to find.

Hey guys, all this talk about ride hight had me wondering. I did alot of research in my components to give me the proper ride hight, but had not had my project loaded to see where it was going to sit once ready to ride.

So i grabbed a bunch of my free weights and set 250lbs into the frame to simulate the engine and remaining components such as battery etc.

I happen to have my daily rider KZ750L4 sitting beside the project :) so stood it up and measured to the crashbar mounting tab on the frame = 8.5"

Then i measured the project bike in the exact same spot = 8.75"

So I gained a 1/4" in ride hight even with 28.250" long ZX6R forks and a 17" wheel, instead of the stock 30.250" long forks and the 19" front wheel.

My point is, with careful planning you dont need to worry about ride hight. Just dont throw a set of stock modern triples/forks on it and expect to have a decent ride hight.

so u lost 2" from the forks and 2 1/4" with the wheel. so what did u change to gain that back, plus 1/4" "

how much did u gain with the drop tripple tree ?

Drop top triple clamp gained back over 2.5", decreased rake to 24.5* from the stock 28* which stood the forks up. Also the offset decreased too which shortened the wheelbase, along with raised rear ride hight.

Unloaded mine sits at 9.5" at the crashbar bracket. And at the back where it starts to bend upwards for the swingarm pivot it is 9.75".

I lose .5" at the front and .625 rear when loaded.

Stock is 8.5" and 9.250" loaded :) but thats with the longer Zephyr rear shocks on it.....it use to sit almost level at 8.5" front and 8.75" rear with stock shocks.

Swingarm sits at 7* on my stock bike with Zephyr shocks.

Swingarm sits at 10* on my project bike, swingarm is 1" longer than stock and the eccentrics are set for more ride hight ( axel at the bottom ) This compensated for the shorter 17" rear I'm uning instead of the stock 18" wheel.

I am wondering if the modern forks compress less than the originals which would also help. I think Leon posted a warning in another thread about the risks of messing with the ride height/rake and trail when swapping forks and then riding hard without doing some homework and calculations beforehand, got me worried.

i don't know how much the modern front ends dive compared to the older ones.
you definately don't want to hit your front brakes and have the front end dive and your front tire to contact the header and wedge,or lock the tire  .
