On my '82 KZ650, a 14 tooth front sprocket is as large as will fit, when using a 630 chain. Stock gearing on my bike was 13 / 33.
The 1000 motors apparently have a little more room around the countershaft sprocket.
I recommend changing to a 13 tooth front; adjusting the chain slack and see how you like it.

I want to say its the same gearing as a 78 kz650 sr or something like that,I can call the guy who sold me the parts later today to get you a part number if you need it.KZ1000inaus wrote:

I dont do long distance rides with this. 2oo miles in a day would be max. I do like to take it out and crank on it good though. What is a safe cruising rpm for these motors?
