Sorry I don't have time to look it up right now but if I remember correctly people have used like a 2003 cbr600 light or a zx12. if you google it and kz I'm sure it will come up . Also look at z1enterprises at the fender eliminator kit for kz 900 or 1000 or z1. Basically it is a few simple pieces of aluminum. it is slick and adjustable for how much you want of the light sticking out past the ducktail. The pictures will show you how you can make one for yourself if you decide to go that route.

Im doing the fender elimination thing on my KZ650 and a few dudes have put a ZX6E tail light (upside down) on their KZ's. I have a mockup here done by some dude, and here is how it looks on his bike.

Are there any issues wiring in a ZX6E *LED* light to a stock set up?

Because leds dont have the resistance of a filament bulb your brake light failure idiot light will think that the bulb has blown and light up. You will need to put in a resistor of equal value to the filament bulb resistance to fool the failure unit into thinking there is still a filament bulb in it.

...……..and of course, the resistor(s) will defeat the great advantage of the LEDs; efficiency, as the resistor will do exactly the same as the original filament; wastes 80% of the electric energy to the lamp in heat, same or worse than the stock incandescent.

....every one his/her own, but I would either keep the incandescent, or eliminate any failure circuitry, for the directional or rear lamp for good. The LEDs are very reliable and don't need these wasteful watchdogs.

He's not doing for power saving, he wants to change the whole tail light look and anything modern he buys is almost certainly going to be led.

No real issues.
led rear light runs off 12v just like any other.
If you have a failure warning light that stays on just disconnect it or remove the bulb.

Yep I bought this today:

2001 ZX6E light. Now I have to figure out how to make a mount. Im great with numbers and the financial industyry, which Im in, but im terrible when it comes to fabricating stuff. Someone used this template on their KZ650 but to be honest im miffed at how to make my own:
