There's another problem. The brake arm sticks in too far. It would've been easy with a disk. I only have 1" to play with. I'll be changing my rear tire soon. With it off, I can tell better how it will work. I'd hate to cut this thing up and not use it.

Before I start cutting this thing up, I thought someone else could put it to better use. I'd be willing to trade for a Z1/KZ 900 drum arm I can mod if anyone is interested. If not, I'll start refitting it soon.

If youre looking to keep your original wheel and not mess with the frame, why not go for a GS1100 arm? A common mod , from what I understand, and a pretty straight forward fit (couple of spacers)

I'd been watching some but they sold before I could afford them. This one was too cheap to pass up, besides it is much beefier than most. I like how they look.

There's still one on my watch list. $145 That money can be spent on other things right now.

Well no one spoke up about wanting it so I decided to hack it up. I talked to my welder/machinist and he said he would do it if I had all the pieces cut and ready to go. I'll pop rivet a couple plates on while I'm fitting it.
I know, a carpenter thinks everything is a nail.
I'll have to relieve a few areas to miss the brake arm and parts of the frame. Got some good hard aluminum sheet for that. Also have some 13,69mm plate for the brake stay and shock mounts. I'll be getting a new rear tire after Xmas and that's when I'll get the final measurements. I figure what the hell, I'll ether have a beefier swing arm or $23 in scrap aluminum.

Keep raging against the machine Steve. Considering doing this on an 82 GPz 750 project that is coming next summer. I'm watching with baited breath. :woohoo:

With all the fantastic mods here, I felt left out. The Z1's were known for their high speed wobble. I've been in them and scary is not the word. All I could do was to give it a little more throttle, squeeze the tank with my knees and ride through it. I had one in Tehachapi last year, almost went down. Hopefully this will solve the problem along with some frame gusseting.

That's the plan. I should have checked the square of the blade on my 30 year old Skil saw. After I made the first cut I was committed and had to make the other cuts in the same direction. They mate well but look like SHT. Welded and gusseted, they won't be seen. "Can't see it from my house."
The trick will be making it fit inside the frame and miss the brake control arm. It would have been easier if I had the one that was burned in the fire for a template. At that time, the whole area was being hit by scrap thieves. Anything metal was taken including a spare A/C unit I had in my front yard. I caught three of them scoping out my neighbors place. Illegal aliens. Oh, (undocumented workers) and when they saw me with my 44 hog leg strapped to my hip, they scurried away like rats. :woohoo:
I'll fit it as I had planed in the beginning, maybe cutting and making my own bushings and shims, then send them to Leon to match. I need to get another stock pivot shaft to work with. The ZZR shaft can be cut and washers brazed to it for mock ups. We'll see.
