Intro, I'm new to this forum, I owned my Z1R since I first bought it Dec 1977 in Melbourne Australia. So far it has covered just on 200,000 kms. Many bikes came and went but the old Z is still here and still puts a smile on my face everytime I ride it.
Currently - Engine -1080 MTC pistons, J model valves, mild speedway cams, ZRX1200 carbies (the best mod I had). Dyna coils and ignition, Dyna rev limiter (crank not welded therefore limited to 10,500rpm), heavier valve springs.
Frame- modified the usual places, front discs/ calipers are from 2006 R6/R1, hydraulics are GPZ (zx) 1100, clutch is also hydraulic with GPZ900R actuator.
Rear end has GPZ750 turbo swingarm modified to suit with a GPZ900R wheel/ brake (saved 25Kg in weight)
Exhaust - Marving racing, without duobt the best pipe I have ever tried and I tried many
The bottom end/ gears are still original, apart from the shaft seals.

The bike now handles brilliantly (for an old bike), brakes better, The engine goes like the clappers, it beats my other work horse a modified FJ1200 in both topend torque and power and still delivers better economy.

Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

Thanks street fighter, just as it seems you have a bike the looks great someone comes along with something better, you have a cool ride there.

First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

Thanks Bozo, but Im really admiring your Bike. I want to hear more on the front brake conversion on factory lower legs. Thats the kind of upgrade that gets me excited !!! B)

I have a friend that did machining so I designed the calliper holders and he milled them for me (after I bought a set of R6 , same as R1 callipers off ebay for $60). Originally I used the standard Z1R discs but they started to warp, so I designed an adapter plate to hold standard 2006 R6 discs (another $60 ebay).
With the ZX1100 hydraulics they are fantastic (more feel them my previous ZRX1100), the forks are copping well with no (no more then usual) flex.

I did have to modify the calliper fork lugs by machining 8mm from the inside to allow for the wider span of the callipers. Since the mounting lugs are approximately 30mm wide this is not a problem. I also use progressive springs with extra 25mm spacers. My next step is the emulators to prevent sag during hard braking.

Oh, I put them in that library on my shoulders. B) I've been looking at something similar but hadn't reach a point to work on it. We did something similar to ramtough's, used kz rotors spaced to fit ZX forks and brakes but I was sure there was something better and here it is, in spades! It's like sex to me to see a nice, clean and well executed approach to a common problem.

Les, thanks for your comments, on thing i forgot to mention was that I spaced the discs 3mm out on both sides so that the callipers clear the wheel spokes. When I had the R6 discs / adapters made I added the extra 3mm. The disc itself runs very close to the fork leg on either side.

I know I'll regret this but I could take more photos and maybe add drawings (the originals I lost) IF some one wants to give this a go. The calliper adapters were actually made using a piece of thin wood board and shaped till everything fitted. I also had to make sure the pads ran the total disc surface.
The R6 discs are 5mm in diameter bigger than the Z1R discs but 2.5mm either side made little difference to the calliper.

Something I would like a closer pic of is that steering stabilizer, that looks slick as well. :ohmy:
