Yeah, they'll go it fine. There is just a tiny bit of overspray in there.
Great. Continue on sir!

Took the carbs off the shelf today - they are the next thing to be sorted out after the brakes are done. After that it's just the switch blocks and the valve clearances.

Pretty sure these are VM28's. Not sure whether to keep them or try and find a set of 26's to keep everything original. I'll clean them up and by the time that is done I'll have probably decided. They look pretty good at first glance, although one of the nipples for the drain tubes has broken off.

Something else that would be nice to know: somebody is selling a set of 26 bodies. Are the float bowls, linkage, sliders etc. on the 26's the same as the 28's? Could I just swap out the bodies (maybe with a set of sliders)?

Those are Z1R 28mm carbs. Really nice. They will work nice on the bike. The 1977A1 came with VM26SS just like the Kz900, with air pilot screws. I’m sure I have a bowl if you want it.

EDIT, yes all bowls and linkage are the same. The rack bracket might be different because of the bottom vs top idle speed adjuster.

Yeah, I was expecting 26's and was surprised when I measured the bore. Thanks for the offer, but I'll try and source a bowl here - for the cost of shipping to Europe I could probably get a couple locally.
I've been searching through the forum to find out if these have an accelerator pump, but I honestly don't know what I'm looking for... I assume there would be some sort of linkage somewhere that I could see... really have no idea about these carbs, though - only know my way around the CV's

You would see a pump on the bottom of #2 carb if they were pumpers.  I think Mikaw is right.  Those are probably Z1R carbs.  As far as I know they are the only 28 mm SS carbs that Kawasaki used without a pump.

The 26 mm carbs would have a thicker flange on the output side, which as far as I know is the only visible difference.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

These are 28mm with accelerator pump. As HRM see the pump linkage on #2 carb. The 26mm with pump are almost exact looking. The difference is the 26mm will have a 3 bolt triangle “Sensor” plate also on the #2 bowl. Stay away from them.

OK, hard to miss :) Saw Ed Ness's thread about the 26 pumpers. Seems they need that bit removed and then they're OK. Not something I'm looking at, though. Will either get these working and stick with them, or go back to the stock 26ss.

I've never had a set of Z1R 28's but I've heard they are excellent.

Been looking though old photos and it looks like the caps and bowls on these carbs were polished and the bodies should be bead blasted for something close to the original finish. Is this right?

I polish the caps but not the bowls.  I vapour blast the bodies and bowls.

I've seen sets where the outside two bowls were, what looks like, anodized, for a semi-bright finish.  For the bodies, I bead blast...because I don't have a vapor blast cabinet.  Either way, do your best to seal everything before blasting.  Grit will get inside regardless, but it's best to minimize it.
