Thanks guys. I saw some shiny float bowls on a Z1R poster but I'll get them blasted as I prefer the look. The caps on mine are chromed. May get them redone or just strip and polish them.
Tore everything down today so I can take the parts to get zinc plated. Look to be in pretty good nick. One of the sliders is stuck so I'm soaking that at the moment. The choke plungers and jets look OK to just put straight back in after a clean - jets are 107.5 and 15. The float valves have a bit of wear and the main shaft has some pitting. I'll replace the valves and just make sure the shaft is well lubricated.

Is there wear on the needles or is that just a gummy old gas ring. They can be polished out. Mother’s on a q-tip in a drill motor for the seats and you can carefully Chuck the needle in a drill and some 1200 wet sand will clean them up. Same with the slide shaft. Chuck it up and use the 1200 wet sand.

I'll chuck the slide shaft in the lathe tomorrow and see how it goes. I'll have a go at the valves too but depending on the kits I get I may just replace them anyway.

I’d stay away from any “kits”. Talk to Nessism and just get the ORings needed. Gaskets are the same for the 26/28 so those are in abundance. The only needle and seat I’d consider beyond OEM mukinu is the Viton tipped from Keyster.

The keyster kits are the only ones I would consider. They have the gaskets, o-rings and a new valve seat and valve. If I can get the gaskets and o-rings it might be worth passing on the kit - it should be pretty obvious if the valves aren't closing properly so I can always go back and sort that out. Probably better spending my money on something other than jets that I don't need :) Thanks for putting me back on track.

Keyster kits are about 38$ each last time a checked. Times four kits. Buy gaskets, ORings and carb cleaner (Dip) for around $50.00-60.00. Take the wife on a date night with the hundy you saved.

Will do - but if I don't mention it to the wife I could just spend the extra cash on a bottle of whiskey and a gas heater for the garage ;)

Those jets are stock for 1978 Z1R carbs.  More indication that those carbs came from a Z1R.  Needles should be 5CN15 and needle jets should be O-1.

Check your needles for any signs of wear, and if you find wear....change the needles and needle jets.  That, and o rings are about the only things that wear.

Are those choke plungers gold colour?

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Needles look pretty much new, can't see any obvious signs of wear. Will have to wait until tomorrow to check the numbers - the sliders are on the workbench here at home but the JIS screwdrivers are around the corner in the garage.
As far as I can tell the choke plungers are just normal brass - the lighting might be a bit off in the photo. Are there different types of plungers?

All of the ones I've seen are silver in colour....except the Keyster ones which are gold colour.  They don't have the pin on the bottom either, and I don't use them.  It must be the light of the photo.

I think I read somewhere that all the stock ones are brass, but some of them are (zinc-??) plated - they'll be the ones you've had.
